Licensed Pawnbroker · Ebisunishi, Osaka

Borrow against
the object,
never against you.

MARUDAI SHICHIHO K.K. is a licensed pawnbroker in Ebisunishi, Naniwa-ku. You leave an item, you take the money, and the item is the whole of the security. If you never come back, the item settles the debt and nothing further is owed. That is the entire arrangement.

Two ways it can end

Both are normal. Neither follows you home

You pledge an item, you receive cash
No credit check, no guarantor, no questions about income
You redeem it

You repay the principal and the agreed charge within the term, and the item comes back to you exactly as it was left.

You don't

Ownership of the item passes to us at the end of the term. The debt is extinguished. No collection, no shortfall, no credit record.

There is no third outcome where somebody pursues you for money. The item is the limit of what you can lose.

Who we are

The oldest form of
lending, still the plainest

MARUDAI SHICHIHO K.K. is a licensed pawnbroker in Ebisunishi, Naniwa-ku, a short walk from Ebisucho. Pawnbroking in Japan operates under its own statute, the Pawnbroking Business Act, and requires a licence issued by the prefectural public safety commission. We are not a bank and not a consumer finance company — the legal framework, and the arrangement itself, are different.

What makes it different is worth stating in one sentence: a pawn loan is secured entirely by the object you leave, and by nothing else. No credit check, no guarantor, no income verification, no entry in a credit database. If circumstances change and you cannot come back, the item covers the debt and the matter ends there.

That structure has served people in this part of Osaka for generations, and the reason is not nostalgia. A person having a difficult month should be able to raise money without signing something that can follow them for years. Here, the worst outcome is losing an object you already decided you could part with.

The item carries the risk. You do not. Everything else about this business follows from that one fact.

What we accept

Objects that hold their value

A pawnbroker can only lend against something with a resale market. These are the categories we assess most often.

Watches

Mechanical and quartz watches from established makers, with papers and original box where you still have them.

Jewellery & Stones

Gold, platinum and set stones. Precious metal has a floor value by weight regardless of design or condition.

Brand Bags & Goods

Recognised leather goods and accessories in genuine condition. Authenticity and condition drive the assessment.

Cameras & Optics

Camera bodies, lenses and precision optics — a category with a deep and durable secondhand market in Osaka.

Electronics

Current-generation devices and audio equipment. Values move quickly in this category, which we will explain rather than gloss over.

Other Valuables

Musical instruments, tools and collectables are assessed case by case. If we cannot lend against it, we will say so immediately.

Plain terms

What we would tell
you at the counter

People arrive here on difficult days. That is not a reason to be vague with them — it is the reason not to be. Everything below is said out loud before anything is signed, and none of it should be a surprise afterwards.

  • A pawn loan costs more than a bank loan

Charges are capped by the Pawnbroking Business Act, and are higher than bank credit

  • The advance is below resale value

It has to be — that margin is what makes lending without a credit check possible

  • If you won't redeem it, sell instead

Selling outright pays more than pawning. We will tell you which you actually want

  • Come in before the deadline, not after

Extending a term is usually possible if you speak to us in time

Said plainly
Never pledge what you cannot lose
Ask yourself honestly whether you will be able to redeem it. If the answer is no, this is a sale, not a loan — and you should be paid accordingly.
Not a solution to ongoing shortfall
A pawn loan bridges a short gap. Pledging one item after another to cover monthly bills is a pattern worth stopping and getting advice about.
Bring identification
Licensed pawnbrokers are required to verify identity and record transactions. Anyone offering to skip that step is not operating lawfully.
Ask before you commit
The amount, the charge, the term and the redemption date are all explained before you sign. Ask us to repeat anything that isn't clear.

How it works

Four steps, usually minutes

1

Bring the Item

With identification. Papers, boxes and accessories help but are not essential.

2

Assessment

We examine it and tell you what we can advance, and why that figure and not another.

3

Terms Explained

Amount, charge, term and redemption date, spoken aloud before anything is signed.

4

Cash & Ticket

You take the money and the pawn ticket. The item is stored safely until you return.

I needed money for two weeks and did not want a loan that would sit on my record. It was explained to me that if I could not come back, the watch would simply settle it and nothing more would happen. I did come back, but knowing that made the fortnight bearable.

I asked to pawn a ring I had no intention of ever collecting. They told me plainly that selling it outright would pay me more, and then bought it. Being talked out of the worse option by the person who profits from it is not something I expected.

My redemption date was approaching and I could not manage it that month. I went in and asked rather than avoiding it, and the term was extended without any drama. The lesson was simply to turn up and speak to someone.
